    Lisa, you will see that our own Bromsgrove district council declared a climate emergency in July – motion proposed by Lib Dems and passed unanimously. We deliberately did not set a target date ( too many are set too early without getting all the facts and auditing where we are now on eg carbon footprint) but expect that a date will emerge as the task group understands what is possible with goodwill and enthusiasm on all side including most importantly getting residents to play their part and central Gov and others to help with finance for those who will struggle.

Climate emergency motion going to Newcastle under Lyme Borough Council on 3rd April 2019. Proposes Carbon neutral borough by 2030, a climate action working group and for Newcastle to host and coordinate a regional partnership to drive for a carbon neutral region. Norwich City Council did not declare a climate emergency. The ruling Labour Group heavily watered down the climate emergency/carbon neutrality by 2030 which I had tabled as Leader of the Green Party Group on the City Council.
The Labour Group amended my motion to ‘recognise’ rather than declare a climate emergency. The Cabinet member stated that carbon neutrality should be sought as soon as possible, but went on to re-state the Council’s aim of achieving carbon neutrality as set out in Norwich Labour’s 2040 City Vision – ie by 2050.

The Green Party abstained from Labour’s heavily amended motion which lost its urgency by making 2050 as the timeframe.
Norwich City Council should be dropped from the list of UK councils who have declared a climate emergency. The City Council is enjoying the kudos of being on the list, having refused to endorse the climate emergency motion.

Hi,
South Somerset District Council passed their climate and ecological emergency motion last Tuesday 22nd May.
And where do I also find a list of the Town and Parish Councils? Frome, Langport, Glastonbury, Bridgwater, Wells in Somerset have all declared end of last year/early this year.
Is there a downloadable spread sheet I can access?

Is there any format or help for those formulating a Parish or Town council motion on Climate Emergency, please? I see that two or three parish and town councils have done it and I would like pointers to make sure all points are covered and the wording is precise so it doesn’t throw up contentious issues and hinder our objective.

  I live in South Holland district and they havent done anything about it.
  So I am looking for any advice you may be able to give me.
  The letter has gone off to the chairman of the council asking why this has not happened but moving forward I would like any help in giving them a push.

  Quite so, and I fear that is helping to do the councils’ greenwash for them. West Sussex is long on talk and signing pledges; short on measurable targets and meaningful action. West Sussex ‘noted the call for a climate emergency’ and then continued business-as-usual, in particular with a huge road building programme.

Declaring a Climate Emergency is good BUT doing something about it is critical!
Individuals can’t do much to address the C02 created by Agriculture (deforestation) and Manufacturing (consumerism) beyond buying and wasting less.
Individuals can act on a local basis to improve Air Quality to stop the damage to the lungs of our children by installing the infrastructure to facilitate the transition to Electric Vehicles using convenient on-street charge points delivering low cost Green Energy.
