My question – in terms of Tranch 1 works – what is your understanding of the TRO mechanisms that LAs are using – there has been some debate about whats best internally
At #makespaceforpeople we are collecting actions on roadspace reallocation from around the world, what works, and, importantly, what didn’t work and why. Our public Facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/Make-Space-For-People-104217317931674/ but we are also looking for people to contribute to create a UK group and to add their expertise
I think I’m the only disability person on there as well, so more people with expertise/experience and lived experience on street accessibility would be great to hear from as well
We need to have a legal minimum height for street signs, at the moment some are so low that you have to duck under when cycling, this week when out walking a friend bent down to look at something and came up bashing her head on a metal sign ‘pedestrians’..
We have a major road, the A24, that come to Givons Grove roundabout, at the approach to the roundabout needs a big cycle box, at the moment cyclists have to stop because most car drivers are oblivious of cyclists either approaching or waiting to cross. This sort of change would not be expensive, just paint.
The question has been asked about maintenance. Has any work been done on the sutability of road (and pavement) surface repair criteria? For example, in my home county a pothole isn’t a pothole until it is at least 50mm deep: ok in a car or truck, a serious hazard for a cyclist or someone in a wheelchair or on a newly legalised eScooter. With the edges of the roads being taken over by cycle lanes and widened pavements, assessments need to change. Are any councils taingpositive actions on his please? (And if anyone kows of any work being done on comparative risk, please let me know!)
More info on DfT cycle repair scheme please
All I can find is that repair vouchers will be given out. So by whom (especially in London)? And are there any criteria as to who can provide repairs? I’m especially interested in including bike repair coops & community workshops in this. Thanks
Does anyone have an example of reducing speed limit to 20mph on an A road through a village centre? I’ve been trying for years to get action – instead we have more and more guard rails that reduce the pavement width – but without them, with fast traffic coming into the centre over the bridges, people would not be safe!
Making space for Pedestrians
Making Space for Cyclists
making space for the disabled and elderly also important
