Cllr Simon Pickering, a professional ecologist for over 30 years. He was first elected as a councillor 1991, stepping down in 2002 to help rear his children. Re-elected in 2011. He is Chair of Environment Committee and Stroud Rural SuDS Steering group and Co-Chair of the Gfirst LEP Energy Business group . Simon has lead the council to become the first carbon Neutral Council in Europe in 2015 and within the introduction of a radical new recycling scheme to become the council is sending least amount of residue waste to landfill in England in 2018 . Simon is now working with CN2030 officer to main stream climate change action through every council department , the consultation on the emerging strategy and to develop a district wide partnership
